What is Scar Therapy?
Scar therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment designed to support healing, mobility and comfort in all types of scars — both new and old. It may help reduce tightness, numbness, sensitivity and restricted movement around the scar.
Restore Scar Therapy is a specialised, evidence-informed approach that considers not only the scar itself, but also the surrounding tissues and how they may be affecting movement, comfort and sensation.
Treatment may help with tightness, numbness, sensitivity, pulling sensations, restricted movement and reconnecting with areas of the body that may have felt forgotten after surgery, injury or trauma.
Using gentle manual techniques, scar therapy aims to improve tissue mobility, support healthy healing and encourage greater comfort and confidence in the body.
Each session is approached gently and at your pace, with space for both physical and emotional healing.
Scar therapy may support:
• Caesarean birth scars
• Surgical scars (including abdominal surgery, orthopaedic surgery, mastectomy and laparoscopic scars)
• Injury and trauma scars
• Burn scars
• Tight or restricted scar tissue
• Numbness, sensitivity or pulling sensations around a scar
• Older scars causing discomfort or restricted movement
What to expect during your appointment
Your initial consultation and treatment includes time to discuss your scar history, symptoms and goals for treatment.
Treatment is always approached gently and at your pace. Sessions may include gentle scar massage, soft tissue techniques, movement, education and aftercare guidance to support ongoing healing at home.
For newer scars, treatment is generally recommended once the wound is fully healed with no scabs, openings or signs of infection present.
Topical Products and Scar Supports
Scar therapy is not just about what happens during your appointment. Self-care can also play an important role in supporting scar recovery.
Depending on your scar and stage of healing, I may discuss options such as moisturisers, silicone products, scar supports or kinesiology tape (K Tape) to complement your treatment plan.
While no product can completely erase a scar, these supports may help improve hydration, tissue flexibility, comfort and overall scar quality when used appropriately alongside scar therapy and movement.
