Frequently Asked Questions
How soon after surgery or injury can I start scar therapy?
For newer scars, scar therapy can often begin from around 6–8 weeks after surgery or injury, once the wound is fully healed with no scabs, openings or signs of infection present.
Recovery timelines vary depending on the type of surgery, injury and individual healing, so treatment is always considered on a case-by-case basis.
It's never too late to seek support for a scar. Scar therapy may also benefit older scars that feel tight, numb, sensitive, uncomfortable or restrictive.
Does scar therapy hurt?
No. Scar therapy should not be painful.
Treatment is always tailored to your comfort level and carried out at a pace that feels right for you. Some areas of a scar may feel sensitive, tight or unfamiliar, particularly if there is numbness, adhesions or restricted movement, but techniques can be adjusted throughout the session.
Many clients describe treatment as gentle and relaxing, and communication is encouraged at all times to ensure you feel comfortable and in control.
Some mild tenderness may be experienced during or after treatment, but this is usually short-lived and should settle quickly.
Is scar therapy only for Caesarean birth scars?
No. While caesarean birth scars are a common reason clients seek treatment, scar therapy may be beneficial for many different types of scars.
Scar therapy can be used to support people with:
✔ Caesarean birth scars
✔ Orthopaedic surgery scars
✔ Abdominal surgery scars
✔ Injury scars
✔ Burn scars
✔ Older scars
Every scar is unique, and treatment is tailored to your individual needs, symptoms and goals. Whether your scar is recent or many years old, scar therapy may help improve comfort, mobility and awareness of the scar and surrounding tissues.
Can older scars still be treated?
Yes. Scar therapy can be beneficial for both new and older scars.
While earlier treatment may support healing and recovery, many people notice improvements in scars that are months or even years old. Treatment may help reduce tightness, discomfort, pulling sensations, sensitivity and restricted movement, while also improving awareness and connection with the scar area.
Every scar is unique, and results vary from person to person, but it is rarely "too late" to explore scar therapy.
Scars can benefit from treatment early after surgery or injury, but also decades later.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies depending on the age of the scar, the type of scar, your symptoms and your individual goals.
Some people notice changes after just one session, while others benefit from a series of treatments. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your scar, any symptoms you may be experiencing, and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Scar therapy is not a one-size-fits-all treatment, and recommendations will always be based on your individual circumstances and response to treatment.
